Are you a bride-to-be or a wedding shower host? Are you unsure about who should help you plan a wedding shower? Here are some essential tips every bride and wedding shower host should know.

If you’re wondering who should help you plan a wedding shower, first things first—if you’re not the bride, you don’t have to plan your own shower. Of course, there is no rule that says you can’t plan your own wedding shower, but it’s considered poor etiquette to do so because it suggests you’re blatantly asking for gifts. While this is certainly an old etiquette rule and times have since changed, it still rings true most of the time. It is not uncommon for the bride to be very involved in the planning process, but someone other than the bride still typically plays hostess.

If you’ve volunteered to plan a wedding shower for someone, it is assumed that you will be responsible for all aspects of the planning process. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t recruit some extra help to make life a little easier. In fact, many wedding shower hosts enjoy co-planning a shower. It can be fun, less stressful, and in many cases, cut some of the financial burden in half. If you’re unsure of how to go about asking someone to help you plan the shower or you aren’t sure who you should ask in the first place, consider the following.

Talk to the maid of honor—If you’re not the maid of honor, get in touch with her and see if she would be willing to help. Most of the time, the maid of honor is the one who hosts the shower, but this isn’t always the case. Asking the maid of honor is ideal because she is usually very close to the bride.

Consider local friends of the family—You can also turn to local friends of the bride to help you plan the wedding shower. If they are local, chances are they are often in touch with the bride and will know some of her preferences. Friends of the family and local girlfriends can often help pick out things like the venue and catering. They can serve as great partners and resources when it comes times to plan a wedding shower.
