Maybe you want to pay tribute to your ancestry or you just love the English culture. Here’s how you can throw a traditional English wedding!

No Bachelor or Bachelorette Parties

England has its own version of these parties, called a hen do (women) and a stag do (men). While both types of parties involve the celebration before the wedding, they are a little bit different. For instance, in England, they often travel to different countries like Prague to celebrate. They also often dress up, as in Halloween-style dress up. So, while you may not be able to travel to a different country, your plans may be a little bit different than the traditional US bachelorette party.

The Wedding and Wedding Breakfast

Traditionally, the bride and groom will prepare for the wedding and have the church ceremony in the morning. After the church ceremony, they and their guests and wedding party will have the “wedding breakfast.” It’s often called the breakfast, even if it happens in the afternoon. After this, the speeches will take place, much the same as it is in the US, from the bride, groom, their parents and the wedding party.

The Night Do

Typically, that night, there is another celebration where invited guests show up for cocktails and a buffet-style dinner and dancing. This often involves guests who weren’t necessarily invited to the wedding ceremony, so it’s a great way to celebrate with friends and family even if the ceremony itself was rather small.
