Ellen Baumwoll of Bijoux Doux Specialty Cakes compiled a list of the top ten wedding cake flavors. Her list is based on the cake flavors, fillings, and toppings most commonly ordered in her shop. Included in the list are three variations of chocolate, with chocolate devil’s food cake and vanilla buttercream frosting taking the number one spot. Lemon cake, yellow butter cake, banana cake, and hazelnut-almond cake also made the list. A variety of buttercreams were the most popular toppings, and ganache was the most popular filling. Most surprising was that white cake, despite its reputation of being boring, still made the list as one of the top ten.
When looking at the top ten cake flavors, what you really see is that most of the flavors are conventional. Exotic flavors, while tasty, didn’t make the list. The reason for this is that while the wedding is definitely about you and the groom, the cake should be a flavor that is welcomed by your guests as well. By choosing your wedding cake flavor from the top ten, you can pretty much guarantee that the majority of your guests will be pleased with your choice.
