Wedding Planning Marathon

Have a super busy schedule? Or perhaps you’re planning on having your wedding out of town. Or maybe, just maybe, you’re working with multiple people’s schedules. Whatever the case may be, you may need or want to participate in a “wedding planning marathon”, as I like to call them. What exactly is it? A single day or two that is filled completely with wedding planning (I know, what could possibly be better?)!

So how do you pull this off? Here are a few simple tips to make it easy.

1. Work smart. Schedule appointments with just enough time between to travel. And, if you’re heading someplace new, make sure you know how to get there in advance so you’re not late.

2. Map it out. There is no use in traveling all around town with gas prices so high! Map out all of the stops you’ll be making and try to schedule your appointments in an order that requires you to drive the least. You’ll save time and money!

3. Be prepared. When you call to set up your appointment, ask about what you’ll be talking about and doing (for example, with your baker, will you simply be discussing cake shape, or will you be tasting samples?). And, bring all the necessary items you’ll need (lists of people, color swatches, etc.).

4. Don’t forget to eat! If you plan it right, you might just be able to finagle a free meal (schedule you’re caterer’s tasting around lunch or dinner time). But even if you can’t work that out, a day like this can be exhausting, so be good to yourself!

5. ENJOY! Working with vendors to help you make your big day a hit can and should be fun and enjoyable! Roll with the proverbial punches and try to have a good time, even if all you want to do is just get married. ;)

Great recommendations! making the fun is key, I’ve seen get so stressed over the process making the event “perfect” that they completely miss out on the great fun the planning and event can be.

One suggestion I’d add…

Accept recommendations from vendors. If a florist recommends against a certain combination of flowers or the caterer suggests a certain suggestion, it is probably a good idea based on years of experience. You might want your favorite flower in the bouquet…but if they will wilt after a hour, probably not a great selection.

Wedding planning can be hard. We shoot weddings for a living and deal with out of town brides every day coming to our area for a beach wedding.
My wife talks with them for hours on end helping with all the details.
Everyone need a good plan..
