An Exuberant Bride

Happy Monday, everyone! Here is a little tidbit by Ayesha Sandra Lee, from Merry Maui Weddings. Do enjoy!
I love happy, excited brides. After all, many women have dreamed of their weddings and planned them since childhood. Then, a woman finds the man she wants to spend her life with, and perhaps have children with. She plans her dream wedding for months and often several years. Shouldn’t she enjoy this beautiful celebration of beginning her life with her true love? “Yes, of course,” you say. But, sadly, this is not always the case.
Some brides are so sabotaged by nervousness, self-doubt or even their desire for “perfection.,” that they cannot enjoy the planning or the wedding, itself. Their extreme concern that every detail be perfect, ruins their appreciation of the true joy of marriage – the wondrous fact that two people are promising to join their hearts and lives in a lifelong commitment.
Happily, some brides are so appreciative of this miracle of marriage, that they perceive the world through rose-colored glasses and see perfection in every aspect of their wedding. If only every bride knew that this kind of joy gives them more luminous beauty, than any make-up, dress or lighting could, they would all strive to “don’t worry, be happy.”

In honor of last weeks post on the ever-so-fabulous French wedding cake, I thought I’d post on something a little closer to “home”. I’m mainly Norwegian and Germain… pretty awesome, I know. So imagine my giddy, school-girl excitement when I discovered this FABULOUS traditional Norwegian wedding cake!

From What Possessed Me
And if you want to get a little more patriotic:

From hfb
This almond-y treat is made up of 18 rings stacked on top of each other and drizzled with a sweet frosting. Its consistency is more like that of a cookie than a cake. If it tastes anything like krumkake, sign me up!
Let’s get hitched - in space

Apparently it’s possible…and getting popular! The Luxist, a great blog about luxury living, recently did a post about these far out weddings.

For a small fee of 2.2 million bucks, even you can tie the knot quite literally amongst the stars. DVICE has another fab post about it. Rocketplane Kistler Japan, the transportation, and First Advantage, the wedding planner, will take you high into the sky for a one-hour ceremony. Only downside (other than the large price tag) is that it’s not really a valid wedding of two people - no government (at least on earth) will recognize it. But let’s be honest - if you can afford to get married in space, a few extra hours and dollars on earth won’t break your bank. As DVICE puts it - at least you’ll have some cool wedding pictures!
Honeymoon Clos{er} to Home

Lots of couples talk about honeymooning in other countries. But sometimes, that’s just not in the budget! Just because you don’t want to go broke because of your honeymoon (kudos to you for that) doesn’t mean you can’t have a fabulous one nonetheless. Try taking a vaca a little closer to home! (Side note: this is being written from US citizen’s perspective, so we’re considering the United States “home”. =)
The US has some beyond fabulous destinations to spend a little time living it up newlywed style. Here are a few places you might want to look into!
Savannah - A fabulous place to get away to any time of the year, Savannah offers a charming setting filled with southern hospitality.
Jekyll Island - Dubbed “Georgia’s Jewell”, Jekyll Island is full of fun activities in a picturesque setting.
The Coast - For everything from rugged cliffs, evergreen forests, and sand dunes, the Oregon Coast is the place to be if you want to experience the beauty of nature.
Mt. Hood - Want to spend your days in the snow and evenings cuddled up by the fire? Mt. Hood is the white wonderland you’re looking for.
Willamette Valley - If wine is your thing, you simply must check out Willamette Valley. The “heart of Oregon’s agriculture country”, Willamette Valley is home to over 200 wineries.
Hamptons - For miles of beach, fresh produce from family farms and fresh fish caught the same day, the Hamptons makes a great honeymoon getaway.
Adirondacks - Beautiful and rustic, spending some time in the Adirondacks can really bring a pair of souls to life!
Nantucket Island - Whether you want to bike or boat or spend some time at the spa, Nantucket is a great place to get some beach time in.
Martha’s Vineyard - For fine seafood dining and smooth sailboat sailing, Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy some quality time with your new spouse!
Lake Tahoe - Smack dab in the middle of Cali and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is rich with history, color, and beauty. The perfect place to which you can escape, to enjoy the most popular attraction - “the restful silence of the wilderness and the awe-inspiring beauty of the Lake”.
There are so many beautiful places so close to where you are, even if you have a bottomless budget, you might just want to check them out anyway. Happy Honeymooning!
The Mansion

I’m an absolute sucker for great venues. Maybe it’s the building itself, the architecture, the history behind it. Perhaps it’s the vision you get when you enter the space. Or maybe it’s the feeling you get when you walk through the doors, see an empty (or sometimes not-so-empty) room, and know that you can do something fabulous there.
I recently saw such a place. Well, actually, I did not see it in person, but the wonderful people over at bloomeryweddings.com recently did a post about The Mansion at Butler, PA. I imagine I would have “that feeling†walking through its doors and wish I could see it in the flesh.
