Funny First Dance

I don’t have time to do a full post today but I thought I would put up a funny video a friend sent me recently. Two comments: I hope you feel like a champion after planning your wedding and I wouldn’t recommend doing the Soulja Boy dance at your wedding in case your grandparents ask what the lyrics mean!
Movie Review : Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding

Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. The show that’s been a hit for years has been turned into a movie that, if you need a few good wedding-related laughs or want to be scared out of marrying into an Italian family, you should definitely check out. I’ve never seen the show live, which I have heard is hilarious, but the movie staring Joey McIntyre and Mila Kunis is quite the spectacle.

Tony and Tina are just two young individuals that want to tie the knot, but their families always unintentionally find a way of getting IN the way. The mixing of the two clans is quite the site to behold - and I believe if I were either Tony or Tina, I’d just want to pull out all of my hair by the end of the day. But, even after the crazy day, insane families, and lots of madness and mayhem, Tony and Tina get what they really want.
In my honest opinion, the movie was at least somewhat interesting. I wouldn’t put it at the top of my favorite wedding movies list and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to couples that are going through a rocky wedding planning patch (I seriously think my blood pressure rose just watching it). But, for those love birds out there that have just gotten engaged, maybe you should check it out and take notes on the things you might want to avoid. And if you have recently gotten hitched, you would probably appreciate the satirical wedding day craziness - more so if you readily admit that you wedding day was indeed an “insane” one.
Thanks Emerging Pictures for the flick!

It’s your wedding day - you should feel like you’re walking on air, right? Well this couple took that quite seriously…
My mum saw this on CNN this on Tuesday and let me know. On Monday we posted about getting married in space. What will those creative brides and grooms think of next?! Found this video on NECN.com.
Finding “The One” : Superstitions of the Past

Hello! I got a little book over the weekend with some fun little tidbits in it that I simply must share with you! (The book, “Just for the Bride”, is published by Parragon Publishing.) This first post is, as the title states, about some superstitions young ladies of the day believed would help lead them to their future husbands. Read on to see what you might have been told if you were searching for Mr. Right.
“On Christmas Eve, stand before the fireplace and gaze into the flames to see the image of your future husband.”
“If you love a man and want to know if he will propose, throw a nut into the fire and say his name. If the nut jumps, you’ll marry. If the nut doesn’t move, the relationship will have no spark.”

“You can learn the temperament of your future husband by plucking a piece of hay from a hayloft at midnight. A crooked piece foretells a surly man; a straight piece signifies a good-natured man.”

“In case you are lucky enough to be a bridesmaid, plant a spring of myrtle in front of the newlywed’s home. If it takes root, you’ll marry within the year.”
“Peel an apple in a single strip and toss the peal over your left shoulder. The shape of the peel will reveal the first letter of the name of your spouse to be.”
“Pluck some wild daisies from a nearby field and put the roots under your pillow to dream of your groom.”
“On All Hallows Eve, brush your hair three times in front of the mirror. If you glimpse a man standing behind you, wedding bells will ring before the year is through.” (I don’t know about you, but I find this one rather creepy)
“When attending a wedding, be sure to take a piece of groom’s cake home and put it under your pillow. That night the face of your future husband will appear in your dreams.”

Note: Traditionally, groom’s cakes were fruitcakes…thanks goodness times have changed!
If the groom’s cake bit doesn’t work, “soak your shoelaces in water until they are saturated. Then throw them against the wall to see the initials of your soon to be betrothed.”
Hope you enjoyed! I think these types of things are always fun. And, it’s always fabulous to see where some of the things we still do today came from. Share with us any traditions or superstitions you’ve heard of or your family still participates in!

I’ve been following her posts for a while now and I can proudly say, I’m obsessed! Ms Polka is ALWAYS posing great stuff, from what’s up with the wedding fashion world to inspiration bits to real wedding fabulousness! And another reason we think she is a must-read blog? She’s based in Australia, which makes her totally chic in my wedding book!
I love what she writes in her very first post,
Located in Australia, the options are somewhat harder to find, but when you find one it’s all the more fun! In this blog, I discover the unique, the stylish, the fresh and the quirky wedding ideas for Australian (and international!) weddings- most of all I hope to discover things that can make your wedding fun and about YOU!
A few of the posts we love (and find super helpful!):
ABC Of Weddings: L is for Lolly Buffet

I must say, it’s one of the most helpful candy buffet planning guides I’ve seen. Ms Polka breaks down one buffet and notes specific glass containers that were used and where you can find them…AND how much they cost! She goes one step farther with a breakdown of candy by color, which is SO NICE if you’re planning a color-themed candy bar.
Another ABC Of Weddings: P is for Pew Decorations.

Sometimes completely overlooked, pew decorations will play a major part in whatever memory you have of walking down that aisle, and Ms Polka totally gives those aisles the attention they deserve! She has some GREAT ideas, which she lists according to season. Fabulous!
And lastly (only because I have to limit myself to three, otherwise I’ll be here all day):
Today’s post, Coloured Wedding Shoes

Perhaps one of the reasons I love the Polka Dot Bride: I think she has a real knack for finding great shoes and writing fabulous shoe-related posts. And really, who DOESN’T love shoes?! This idea is wonderful and a great way to spice up your wedding day look.
Okay, that’s all the Polka Dot Bride you’re getting from me today. For more complete awesomeness, you’ll just have to check it out for yourself!
Mix Tape : Feel Good Music!

So I am IN LOVE with something Ms Polka from the Polka Dot Bride discovered. Not only is it a fun little addition that can help us bloggers share music with all the wonderful brides out there, but it is something all the wonderful brides out there can put on their personal websites to share potential wedding picks with their wedding party and guests!
How so? Put it on your wedding blog or personal wedding page and play the selection of ceremony music. Or, play a few First Dance candidates and have guests vote on their favorite. Or, just add them to your site for a bit of ear candy.

Madame Dariaux - Part IV

Our last segment from Madame Dariaux.
On Rejuvenation
“If you really want to be rejuvenated, it isn’t enough to smear yourself with cream or to have your face lifted; you must also refrain from ‘thinking old’. The two best recipes for rejuvenation are: surrounding oneself with young people and trying to understand them; and falling in love, even late in life.â€
On Restaurants
“Study men carefully in restaurants, for in these places their characters show up and you can see at once whether a man is timid or sure of himself, generous or stingy, a glutton or a gourmet, attentive or egotistical, witty or boring – in other words, whether or not it would be worth your while to become interested in him.â€
On Slippers
“Show me your bedroom slippers and I will tell you how old you are. You start out in life with tiny sky-blue booties knitted by your mother. You start marriage barefoot; but you soon start to sit down to breakfast in slippers. Finally, the day when your grandchildren bring you a pair of fur-lined slippers, you may as well admit that you have grown old.â€
On Snoring
“If he really snores like a vacuum cleaner, don’t get angry or play the role of an insomniac martyr; simply go and sleep on the sofa in the living-room.â€
On Strangers
“A stranger loses half his charm the day he is no longer a stranger.â€
On Strength
“A man may be Hercules on the outside and have the soul of a mouse, or he may be Mickey Mouse with the soul of Hercules. If you ever have to choose between these two types of men, do not hesitate to pick the mouse with the courageous heart.â€
On Surrender
“Never forget that the day you surrender to a man is the day of your defeat and of his victory; the suspense is over and satiety lies ahead.â€
On Tenderness
“The tenderness one feels for another person is a marvelous sentiment that warms the soul. It is very close to love, but much less demanding and more understanding; in fact it is often the final stage of a great passion, and it is more comforting in old age than anything else I know. Perhaps there is nothing in the world more touching than the sight of a very tender elderly couple.â€
On Two
“Two people in bed, in a restaurant, on holiday, and in life in general, is the ideal number, and I have never understood why young people want to multiply it so quickly. They would do better to exhaust all the selfish pleasures for two before becoming involved in the adventure of raising a big family.â€
