Headbands are “hot” – in mainstream fashion and in bridal. For brides going without a veil, they can add the perfect little something, taking their do’s from everyday to wedding day. Sporting a veil for the ceremony? Remove it after the “I Dos” and live it up at the reception with another hair accessory, like these fabulous selections from BAMBAKO, created by designer Abigail Ricarte.

Unmentionables

HELLO!! I’m sorry for my two and a half week absence. I have missed you. :( Alas! I have returned! I’m excited to be back and to share with you a little tip on some unmentionables.

I’ve gotten a ton of emails lately about great wedding lingerie. I’ll post about them eventually, but the emails got me thinking. Just because you’re shopping for “bridal” or “honeymoon” underthings doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune on them.

One of my absolute favorite shops is aerie. Yes, the intimate apparel store for tweens and teens. But, just because it is marketed to a younger crowed doesn’t mean you can’t find something fabulous for yourself! Check out these little numbers that work well for everything from the every day to the honeymoon getaway.

The best feature of each of these? The price tag. Every one of the items above is below $15. Nice!

Ruby Love

In honor of the month of July and it’s stone, rubies, I thought it’d be fun to share some ruby finds that would be a fabulous addition to any wedding day.

I love these drop earrings from Julieri! So dainty! They add just enough sparkle and color for any white getup and could easily be worn after the big day (as can the rest of these selections!).

Here is a simple ruby necklace (that would so wonderfully match the above earrings, if I do say so myself) from Ten Thousand Things. Please forgive me – the quality of the pictures isn’t the greatest.

Rings are my favorite! Check out this beauty from Melissa Joy Manning. The hammered gold band perfectly complements the oval, sparkly ruby.

Happy Birthday to all of you brides (and grooms) born in July! :)

I am so excited to share this post! It was a community effort to bring such a cool little project together.

Super-talented Marla J Designs contacted me about possibly reviewing her jewelry designs for this blog. Now, I’m super -picky with fashion and art, so it’s not as simple as writing a glowing endorsement about everything that comes my way. I thought to myself, "Well, let’s see" and I looked into her selection. Can you imagine how thrilled I was to find that I just loved Marla J’s designs?! Not only did I find her to be a super-cool person, she’s an all-around entrepreneur and eco-conscious businesswoman! Those are two things that speak right to my heart. She sent me some samples while I arranged a photo shoot.

I asked the lovely Miss Broke-Ass-Bride herself if she’d consider modeling, and to my delight she said yes! She’s a terrific model! I have to say, the camera loves her.

Next was finding the right photographer. I contacted the multi-talented Alexandra Breckenridge , crossing my fingers that she might be available. She agreed and we were on our way!

Oooh, so much fun!!! Check it out!

In the first pic, Miss Broke-Ass-Bride is on her way to meet the parents. A dash of old-time elegance goes a long way! Looking the part, she feels confident it will go smoothly. She’s modeling a Satin Chocolate Fascinator embellished with Black Onyx and Feathers.

At her wedding shower, it’s time to feel pretty and fun. She can goof around with her bridesmaids sporting a Silk Red Rose Fascinator embellished with Swavorski Cyrstals and Guinea Feathers.

When she goes for bachelorette night with her girls, Miss B-A-B takes no prisoners. The gorgeous Peacock Earrings highlight her eyes in vibrant green and blue. Eat your hearts out, boys!!!

Drama at the reception? Not for long!! Miss Broke-Ass-Bride puts every other girl to shame wearing a classic Ivory Open Rose Fascinator embellished with Swavorski Crystals and Coque Feathers. Completing her look are sheer White Peacock Feather Earrings , embellished with Swavorski Crystal and hung on Sterling Silver.

This all was sooo much fun! Please check everyone out individually via the links below. I’m so lucky to be surrounded with such talented people!

When the weather is dreary I always think of vacationing, and one of the most beautiful places I’ve been is Maui. While staying there, you see signs asking people not to take the beach home with them. In fact rumors were created saying if you take any of Hawaii of the island, you’ll have bad luck for 10 years! And I can’t blame them for being so cautious, because if I could, I’d plop the island in my pocket and take it home with me!
I met Jamee Jones, jewelry maker and owner of Jonara Blu Maui , who runs her business out of Maui on the side of the Volcano. Imagine the view! She draws all her inspiration for her jewelry from her breath-taking surroundings. She mixes shells, pearls, silk and beads into delightful pieces that are perfect accessories for any beach wedding. This is a excellent way of taking a piece of Maui without offending the islanders.

While scheming my imaginary Hawaiian wedding, I picked out my favorite piece called "Champagne Circles ," (love the name also) which is made with mother of pearl shell, Swarovski crystal, silk, gold and freshwater coin pearls. The freshwater pearls are an added bonus for me, because it was my husband’s first gift to me! And I also handmade freshwater pearl necklaces, as gifts, for all by bridesmaids.

So many fabulous things out there to dream about and search for and try on and purchase! But where to begin? Let’s think about it logically.

Vera Wang
Vera Wang

Often, The Gown determines just about everything else. If you REALLY want to tie the day together, you’ll consider the event space (ceremony and reception locations) when deciding on the style of your dress, not just your body type and personal preferences. But after you have found The One, what’s next?

Grace
Grace Footwear

We’d start with shoes. They will be needed for alterations and may or may not be seen under your dress, so they are important to consider (especially if being seen). Also, they will determine if you’re two or three inches taller than normal and how much pain you’ll be in at the end of the night (only half kidding!). Details in your shoes (and of course, your dress) may be things you’d like to reflect in your other accessories.

veil
Altered Bride

On to the veil! Now you know how simple or intricate your dress and shoes are, so look into finding a veil that compliments them! Generally, the more simple the dress, the more wiggle room you have for a fancy veil. Long, short? Classic, chic? Blusher or no blusher? Knowing what it is paired with will narrow down your choices.

So now you have the big ticket items (between the above you’ll want to find undergarments – don’t forget about those!). Time for the little things! With the overall look, what kind of jewelry would look best? Lots or little? Intricate or simple? Not every bride needs earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet! If your gown has a fancy neckline, consider skipping a necklace altogether! Sometimes less truly is more. :)

Clutch
From the oh-so-fabulous Chlorine!

And don’t forget about the baubles and doodads like a clutch to in which to keep all of your must-have wedding day items!

What was (or has been) your favorite thing to look for/shop for/try on/purchase for your wedding day ensemble? What else would you consider essential to any bride’s wedding day look?

I have seen SO many cute knitted wedding tidbits out there, I just had to post about them!

Here is a delicate knitted shawl that would be perfect for a winter wedding! So much texture and so visually appealing – I love it (and want it)! By Toby Hanna.

Look at these beautiful pieces by Nanda Handcrafted: Fields of Gold Cowl, which can be worn in a number of fashionable ways as a scarf or shawl, and the Ice and Roses Neckwear piece. Fields of Gold would be marvelous for a late fall wedding and Ice and Roses would look fabulous for a winter wedding (and a lot of winter holiday events).

Here is a clutch I wanted to buy for myself when I was visiting family in St. Louis a while back. I found it at The Posh Fox, and it’s made my Suzanne Marie (please contact me if you would like to reach her)!

Want more knitted wedding stuff? Check out CastOff.info for The Knitted Wedding – a group of individuals attempting to knit an entire wedding. Can they do it? I believe so!

Here are some good ideas for DIY knit and crochet wedding projects.

Want some more knitting resources? Here are a few sites and blogs:

Want more ways to incorporate knitted bits into your wedding day? Try knitted:
-stuffed animals for your youngest guest
-sweet cardigan(s) for your flower girl(s)
-pillow for your ring bearer
-cuffs for your and your bridesmaids’ bouquets
-hats for some fabulous pictures for a winter wedding
-scarfs for guests, placed by the exit of your ceremony site (with a note asking them to bundle up before the leave for the reception!)

Unless you’re going all out, just use one or two knitted (or crocheted…we don’t discriminate!) elements for a warm, fuzzy feel!

Pearls!

by Katie on September 9, 2008 · 0 comments

in Fashion and Trends, Jewelry & Accessories

I recently had a birthday (yay) and it turned out to be the birthday of pearls (double yay). I received some fabulously pretty pieces from my significant other and beautiful ring from my parents. I adore them all! The reason I bring up pearls, though, is because they make SUCH wonderful wedding jewelry. They are elegant, classy, classic, delicate, you name it. And, with all of the creative minds out there, they have been and can be used in more contemporary ways, too.

Here is something similar to my current pearl obsession:

But! Whenever I see pearls, I think of this scene from The Tenth Kingdom (that one really long made-for-TV movie that came out years ago). This clip is a little long and the “ring part” is at the end. I do hope you enjoy. How precious!
