Fabric flowers are all the rage these days! I admit that I adore them, being someone who loves fabric and who also loves flowers. The best thing about these beauties is that many of them are simple to DIY which in my opinion, makes them a PERFECT wedding addition!
Below are some fabulous flowers from the always wonderful Martha Stewart Weddings. (I must stay – it would be sheer heaven to spend a day with the MSW staff…). What’s even better is that each of these specific flowers are ones that you can make yourself – in any color, in a variety of fabrics – to be placed just about anywhere on wedding day.
Love this dahlia! It looks great on a hair clip or headband, but I also think it would make a wonderful addition to a simple clutch, handbag, or tote. Find the how to here.
This collection of roses and peonies really adds something to this simple dress. Apply the same concept to your own. If you’re looking to save a few pennies, especially in the garment area, consider purchasing a super simple gown (or a white, cream, or ivory dress that isn’t technically a “wedding dress” at all) and add your own fabric flowers. Find the how to here.
This oversized peony screams “mod” to me. I don’t think I could pull off this large of a bloom on top of my head, but girl, if it works for you, go for it! I can’t decide if I’d like it better with a long gown or a tea length dress (or something shorter). Any thoughts?
Using the same patterns from above, you can create little gifts for your bridesmaids (flower girls, moms, or even favors for bridal shower guests) in the form of hair clips. Or, attach them to a headband or pin to be worn in a bit different way.
These are so sweet! I think these, in varying shades of the same color, would make a beautiful, everlasting bouquet….or corsage, or boutonniere, or just about a million other things!
A ring pillow with a big ole’ fabric flower, held by your ring bearer, might possibly be one of the sweetest things at your wedding ceremony. Find out how to make this particular pillow here.
Above I mentioned a few things these flowers can be glued or pinned to, but here is a recap with some additional ideas for where fabric flowers can be used.
- hair clips, bobby bins, head bands
- shoes – flats, heels, flip flops
- purses, bags, clutches, totes
- boutonnieres, corsages, bouquets
- ring pillows, baskets
- napkin rings, place card embellishments, centerpiece decorations
The list could go on forever!
If you have more uses for fabric flowers, please do share with us! Leave a comment or send us an email to weddingfanatic[at]gmail[dot]com. We’d love to hear from you and share your great ideas, too!

I think the nicest gifts you can give someone are handmade. Really, instead of sugar-coated almonds or little chachke you decided on in a panic, how nice would it be for your guests to give them something lovely, from the heart? Here, I’ve made a Dragonfly Box that is a great gift by itself or you can fill it up with your favorite treat! I will walk you through how I did it:

What you need: (I purchased everything at Michael’s )
1. Small Box
2. Ornamental Dragonfly or Butterfly
3. Ribbon (Martha Stewart has some nice ones!)
4. Glass Beads
5. Glitter
Glue
Scissors
1. Twist the included wire (on bottom of the insect) in the shape of a flat circle and glue to lid of box.
2. Cut enough ribbon to fit over lid of box. Trace the length of the ribbon with a small stream of glue and attach it to lid.
3. Put small dabs of glue inside lid and wrap ribbon so that the ends of the ribbon curl around the lip of the lid. Cut excess ribbon to look tidy. Let dry.
4. Put lid on box and use a pencil to trace where the ribbon will go on box. Cut and glue ribbon around the box to match up with markings so that the ribbon looks like it’s wrapped around the whole box (when lid is on).

5. Put a spot of glue on the center of the lid and add beads to it. Then put more glue around beads and add glitter, carefully shaking off any excess.

You can place your new gift box directly on top of place settings, which can add another decorative element to your tables!

I adore pumpkins – tiny and massive, whole or hallow, I love them all! And since autumn has recently begun and I’m seeing pumpkins EVERYWHERE, why not share these marvelous ideas with you!?
So where can you tie in pumpkins on your big day?! Here are just a few ideas.
Centerpieces :: There are so many things you can do with pumpkins, just on the top of your tables! Bring in large pumpkins and surround them with flowers. Carve them up a bit and fill with flowers or candles. Or, try incorporating mini pumpkins into arrangements or making arrangements completely from mini pumpkins (put them in a rustic basket and leave a few scattered around the table).

From Better Homes and Gardens’ 9 Fabulous Fall Centerpieces
Line the aisle :: Group pumpkins on the aisle-side of pews or rows of chairs. Pair with over-sized lanterns filled with candles or floral arrangements. Carve them up and let them glow to meet you as you walk down the aisle!

This pictures is from Fall Bio, a page on which you can find a lot of other fall-themed wedding ideas.
Monograms :: Carve (or have someone else do it for you) your monogram into the side of your pumpkins! Place them below and around the alter, on your reception tables, line the isle with them … put them everywhere (beware of overkill)!

Of course, these are from Martha Stewart’s Translucent Pumpkins . Oh I do love the things she and her staff come up with!
Place Card Holders :: Cut a tiny slit in the top of mini pumpkins and place them on the escort card table and/or use them as place card holders on the actual tables. Or, try sticking a wire in each one, stretched out to hold the little name cards!

These little pretties are from Ranasalame’s Flickr account. Love them!
On the Altar :: If your ceremony site allows flowers or other bits on the alter, consider placing a few pumpkins up there, along with any other memorial, decorative, or traditional floral arrangements.

The
image is from
Chicago Bride, though she seems to feel strongly about NOT using fall-ish items for fall weddings, but if that’s what you want – go for it. After all, the whole point of this post is “pumpkins”…and it’s kind of hard to
not think of fall when I think of pumpkins. (But as a side note, we agree – just because your wedding is during the fall season does NOT mean you have to use oranges, browns, yellows and creams as your colors. There doesn’t need to be a single leaf, pumpkin, or a piece of wheat anywhere on your big day!)

One of my favorite little crafty things? Mod Podge. That’s why I love these paper and Mod Podge wooden letters. And of course they can be used for something fabulous like cake toppers!
Here is a great post from Going Domestic: My Date With Decoupage (her picture is the one above).

Years ago I saw a episode of Martha Stewart where her guest was a women that made, yes made, all of her flowers…out of paper! She would make a few here and there when she had some time and saved them up. By the time the wedding day rolled around, she had completed all that she needed!
There is no reason, if you so desire, that you couldn’t do the very same thing! Or perhaps you like the idea but do not wish to deck out your entire day in paper flowers – simply apply where you feel necessary!

I saw this fabulous post about shower favors on Perfect Bound. I LOVE the teacup candles. There is just something so elegant about good old fashion, girlie teacups! The idea originally comes from the Martha Stewart wedding crew (I won’t lie – I love almost everything they come up with!).

For the DIY bride, this would make a perfect project for a Saturday afternoon. Start collecting tea cups and saucers from thrift stores and yard sales (NOT from Grandma’s cupboards and shelves…even though that’s where all the good ones are!). Practice making a few candles (that wax is HOT) before you produce the “real deals”.
Once the candles have been used, you can turn that tiny treasure into something else that is useful and functional. My favorite idea also comes from Martha and Emily (Eco-Chic Bride): using the cups and saucers as containers to store or display your jewelry!

Like Emily also suggests, whip out that green thumb and put a little plant in it. Or, simply use it for a small centerpiece container full of flowers and/or greenery.

And if you’re really adventurous, perhaps during a post-wedding craft session you could attempt a teacup chandelier! The image below is in fact a teacup chandelier that hangs in Petit Four Cakes in Dallas.
