You must keep track of the people you invite to your wedding! Otherwise, things could be disastrous. So, here are a few fun things you can do with your response, or R.S.V.P, cards.

Keep it Traditional. Use small, pre-printed cards that ask guests to fill in their names and the number of people attending. Included with this small card is a similarly sized and shaped envelope, already marked with a stamp and addressed to the bride’s or her parent’s home. Below is a fabulous little number from Wedding Paper Divas.

Wish you were here! Save on postage and paper by sending postcard response cards. Generally the stamps cost less, and not needing envelopes will save you a bunch of money (and trees)! Below is an example (minus the stamp) from Custom Paper.

Blank looks. The way response cards are “supposed” to be – blank. Send with your invitations, along with corresponding stamped envelopes, and guests write their own little message to you. You may get something like “0 will attend”, or, you may get a nice note explaining why the whole family can’t come yet they wish you all the best. The image below is from Eclatante Event Design.

Tech Savvy. Inviting a small number of guests? Absolutely sure all of your guests use computers and could easily find their way to your wedding website? Some sites offer RSVP options that allow your guests to RSVP right on your wedding website. eWedding.com is a site that has this feature (along with many others).

And a few more things to keep in mind:

-It’s wise to keep track of guests in a spreadsheet, either in Excel or via Google Documents (I love Google Documents because it’s always online and can be updated from any computer that’s connected to the internet….and in case there is a crash, you won’t lose your stuff!).

-Keep the guest information all in one place; names, phone numbers, addresses, the number attending from each family, what they gave you as a gift and whether or not you’ve sent a Thank You note.

-Keep the response cards in one place. Either separate the Yes’s and No’s into separate boxes or separate areas of the same box so if a question ever arises, you don’t have to run around the house looking for one or the other.

-Always open the response cards and sort them right away. Don’t leave them sitting around or tuck them into you planner so that you can file them away later. They could get lost or forgotten! And that would be sad.

I’ve been tagged!

in Random, WeddingFanatic Fabulousness

I am honored! I have been tagged by the fabulous Missy Collins over at IsntSheLovely. So here goes!

Four things I did today:
1. Ate a waffle, with butter and syrup. Delicious…and dangerous!
2. Checked, and still checking, my email (about every 30 minutes).
3. Chatted with a fabulous person on AIM.
4. Went to a meeting.

Four things on my to-do list:
1. Work on articles for KCWeddingScene.com.
2. Blog.
3. Plan a holiday party!
4. Eat lunch.

Four of my guiltiest pleasures:
1. Candy.
2. TV – I don’t watch it that much…and when I do, it’s usually online (ironic, right?). Thanks goodness for networks putting their shows on the ‘net!
3. Sleeping in. I never seem to do it enough (at least imo).
4. Architecture/interior design/home decorating magazines.

Four random facts about me:
1. I have a real soft spot for babies. If I didn’t mind “medical stuff”, I’d want to be a “baby doctor” (as I prefer to call them).
2. Love to wear the color black. It’s my “power color”.
3. Love all things that are “preppy” – topsiders, argyle, Vineyard Vines, canvas totes, etc.
4. I have a LOT of really fabulous people in my life.

Four blogs that I’m tagging (and that I adore):
1. Swanky Tables
2. Peonies and Polaroids
3. The Preppy Wedding
4. Josh Solar Photography

I saw this post not too long ago on Style Me Pretty, and I absolutely LOVE Jenny Yoo’s new stuff.

I particularly like this dress because it is one of those dresses your bridesmaids could possibly wear again.

Add a little jacket or shawl, cute heels or funky flats, and you’ve got a whole new look. Holiday party, anyone?

Keep it Original

in Just for the Bride, Little Tips

Getting married is one thing. Planning a wedding is another. We will just assume you are getting married for the “right reasons” and that you’ve put all that serious thought into the life-changing decision. On to the “fun” part!

I believe that to some extent, everyone wants to be original when it comes to her wedding. It can be difficult to come up with original ideas when you get inspiration from magazines and tv and the Internet (and let me tell ya’, there is a LOT of wedding stuff out there). Then throw in designers that lead and follow trends and a few vendors that lack a bit of creativity, and you’ve got bland, done-before wedding that’s more ew than you! How do you avoid such a catastrophe? A few things to keep in mind:

If it doesn’t reflect you and your personal style, it’ll be less memorable.
Ever been to a wedding that was just so/so? You don’t really remember it much because there wasn’t much that tied the day to the Bride and Groom. Letting your personal touches show throughout the day will leave your stamp, and will be something that your guests will remember.

Think outside of the ring box in everything from fashion to food to decoration. Working with a tiny budget? You don’t have to spend lots to get something “unique”. Buy simple dresses and spice them up with hand-made accessories or “extras”. Get a simple cake and add your own personal decorations. Reception centerpieces don’t need to be made up of flowers and candles! And you definitely don’t need to serve chicken and green beans for dinner!

Do what feels comfortable to you…and most of your guests. Love your pooch to pieces? Insist that Fifi walk down the aisle as the flower girl, or Fido as the ring bearer? Do it! Always dreamed of getting married beneath the stars, late at night? Don’t let anyone stop you. As long as it’s what you want and something that won’t make your guests uncomfortable (ie asking all your guests to throw on an air tank so you can tie the knot under water….probably asking a lot unless they are all diving enthusiasts), go for it. If nothing else, it will be memorable.

Don’t be afraid to go for something a little unexpected. Just because your brilliant idea isn’t “traditional” doesn’t mean it won’t be fabulous!

Keep a secret or two from your family, friends and guests. Thinking about making your grand exit in a helicopter? Planning on singing a song for your new spouse at the reception? Go for it! If it doesn’t happen, no one will know!

While I think a lot of cakes are pleasing to the eye, there is just something fabulous about cakes with tiers that aren’t quite proportionate. Maybe it’s because it’s funky, fun, modern, just-not-traditional…. This one serves a whopping 40 (I would have guessed more). Image from Brides, photographed by John Aquino .

CANDLES! I love them! No, they don’t cover every inch of my living space (Hello! What a hazard!), but when it comes to weddings and events, especially those romantic ones, candles are the perfect ambiance setters. You can use them in all sorts of places – during the ceremony, as aisle liners, reception decor, work them into your tablescape, the list goes on and on. Let me share with you some fabulous candle inspiration! (Side Note: While it seems unique lighting has come into the spotlight {tehe}, there is just something about the delicate flicker candles have to offer that any kind of pin or spot lighting just can’t replace!)

Here is one of my favorite pictures/tables from Brides.com (saw it in a magazine first). I absolutely adore how the candle sticks blend in with the rest of the table. But, I am positive that as the sun goes down and the lights are dimmed, they would provide just the right amount of light. Photo from Mark Lund.

Whether you get them for your bridesmaids or for every one of your guests, these make the perfect little “wedding extra”. If it’s chilly and you’re having an outdoor wedding, send your ‘maids down the aisle in matching or coordinating colors and styles, or tie them around the ceremony chairs with a little note inviting guests to use them. Or, fold some up and tie with a ribbons and notes, placing them in a chic container, telling guests to snuggle up under one. Oh the possibilities!

This week I’m going to be selfish and post about {wedding} things I love. Hopefully you’ll like them too!!

First on my list: The ever-fabulous vintage Rolls Royce. This particular vehicle is a 1960 Silver Cloud II (image from Advanced Limousine Services). To some, it may be a little cleche, but this car, to me, is the epitome of the “classic wedding”.

What are some of your wedding favorites?
