Blogs We Love : Peonies and Polaroids

I’ll be honest - the first thing I noticed about Peonies and Polaroids was the faaabulous pictures. Just about everything is “just my style”, so how could I possibly resist letting myself get sucked in to reading? Everything looks very elegant and classy, a bit modern and a bit vintage. PERFECT! Check out some of my favorite posts!
Okay, so I adore the image. But! The post continues with “oh so sweet, oh so stylish photos of “short and sweet” dresses that could be worn for your wedding, as bridesmaids dresses, or even the rehearsal dinner. Hurrah for short dresses! Tres chic.
Sweet Shoe Love

As I’ve said before, I adore shoes. And vintage chic wedding shoes get extra points. It’s fabulous that Ms Peonie says, “I’m not really a wedding shoes kind of a gal, white shoes leave me cold, white satin makes me cringe. I have no plans to wear wedding shoes to my wedding, I plan to wear red satin peep toes with heels so high that will almost be level with The Boy’s 6ft and 2 inches.” But no worries, she follows that up with ”
But I am a vintage loving kind of a gal, a eau de nil suede, gold leather detail, crystal beads and feathers kind of a gal and each one of these beautiful creations makes my heart skip a beat…” Marvelous!
An Antique Veil…

A simply gorgeous photo, and an even more fabulous veil. Just as Ms Peonie puts it, “truly beautiful and delicate”.
For photo credits, check out Peonies and Polaroids - she does a magnificent job of citing her finds! Have a great weekend everyone!
Don’t Forget!

WEDDING DAY! It’s a big day, and many times, it sneaks up on you (I know, hard to believe). Even with all that planning and organizing, it’s very possible that one or two (or more) things might slip under your radar. Here is a little list of things that often get passed by or misplaced and how to remember or keep track of them!
EATING
How it happens: I can’t tell you HOW important this is - for EVERYONE! The bride, the groom, the bridal party, parents and grandparents, and even your vendors/wedding professionals. Once the day starts and emotions and excitement are running high, it’s easy to get distracted or just push eating aside.
How to prevent it: Schedule a time to eat into your wedding day time line. And, to make sure the food gets to you or wherever it needs to go, designate a person to pick it up, transport, and deliver it. Or, if you plan to have something delivered from a restaurant, order it a week or so before so you don’t have to scurry around at the last minute trying to get everyone fed.
TEARS
How it happens: Well, by tears I mean people crying where there is a lack of facial tissues. We don’t want family members sitting in the front row to be bawling, mascara running down their cheeks, and Kleenexless!
How to prevent it: Long before the ceremony starts, put little packs of Kleenex at the ends of the front few rows (or in all of the pews if you invited a ton of criers!). And for the bridal party, make sure everyone has a tissue tied into their bouquets or in a pockes for easy access. You never know when tears might start!
CANDLES
How it happens: Candles can create a fabulously romantic ambiance. But, if matches and lighters are forgotten, they can’t create that romantic vibe! And what’s more important, if you’re using candles in your ceremony (aka unity candles) and don’t have any method of lighting them, you’d have to skip over the ritual for lack of flame! *gasp*
How to prevent it: pack lighters or matches in your wedding day emergency kit, keep some with all of your decorating items, and keep a small matchbox up at the alter (behind a strategically placed flower arrangement, perhaps). This way, even if other candles aren’t lit, when it’s time for you to light the unity candles, you can still…light your fire.
SORE FEET
How it happens: Unless you’ve worn your wedding day shoes for, well, an entire day, you might now know how your feet will react to being in them for such a long time.
How to prevent it: First, break in those beautiful shoes! Wear them around the house, do a little dancing in them, etc. Also, have a back up pair - whether they are flats or just more comfortable heels - so that you can let your feet have a break and you can keep on partying!
TIPS
How it happens: You don’t necessarily NEED to tip your vendors, but sometimes you want to. But, as the day comes to a close and vendors start leaving (or you leave), a tip can be overlooked.
How to prevent it: On envelopes, write the name of each vendor and the service they provide (for example, “Emma Smith, Cake”) before the wedding day. Then designate someone to pass them out just before the vendors leave (or throughout the day as items are dropped off and set up). Keep a few envelopes and your checkbook or cash in your bag (or have your wedding coordinator, mom, dad, MOH, etc. be in charge of this) so that if someone goes above and beyond, you can say thanks with a little extra somethin’ somethin’!
Feeling Charitable?

Giving back is always a good thing. Your wedding is a perfect opportunity to give to your favorite charitable organizations by either giving a donation on behalf of your guests or registering for donations as opposed to the traditional items like blenders and toasters.
Below we have listed some resources to help you find the charities that are right for you - organizations that work and fight for something that you also believe in and are passionate about.

Want to make that wedding gown really mean something? Yes, of course, you wore it on the day you tied the knot, but do you ever plan on wearing it again? Probably not. So donate it and give those loosing their fight against breast cancer a chance to make some of their biggest dreams come true. Side note: the donation, including shipping, is tax deductible.

Put together by a group of nonprofit leaders, this resource helps you find a way to give back, whether it’s through your gift registry, as wedding favors, or even giving back when ordering your invitations!

Their mission: Dedicated to creating comprehensive tools and services to make charitable giving a part of everyday life, JustGive is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.
Their mission: Charity Navigator works to guide intelligent giving. We help charitable givers make intelligent giving decisions by providing information on over five thousand charities and by evaluating the financial health of each of these charities. We ensure our evaluations are widely used by making them easy to understand and available to the public free of charge. By guiding intelligent giving, we aim to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace, in which givers and the charities they support work in tandem to overcome our nation’s most persistent challenges.
Paper Flowers

Years ago I saw a episode of Martha Stewart where her guest was a women that made, yes made, all of her flowers…out of paper! She would make a few here and there when she had some time and saved them up. By the time the wedding day rolled around, she had completed all that she needed!
There is no reason, if you so desire, that you couldn’t do the very same thing! Or perhaps you like the idea but do not wish to deck out your entire day in paper flowers - simply apply where you feel necessary!

Fab Favor Idea

I saw this fabulous post about shower favors on Perfect Bound. I LOVE the teacup candles. There is just something so elegant about good old fashion, girlie teacups! The idea originally comes from the Martha Stewart wedding crew (I won’t lie - I love almost everything they come up with!).

For the DIY bride, this would make a perfect project for a Saturday afternoon. Start collecting tea cups and saucers from thrift stores and yard sales (NOT from Grandma’s cupboards and shelves…even though that’s where all the good ones are!). Practice making a few candles (that wax is HOT) before you produce the “real deals”.
Once the candles have been used, you can turn that tiny treasure into something else that is useful and functional. My favorite idea also comes from Martha and Emily (Eco-Chic Bride): using the cups and saucers as containers to store or display your jewelry!

Like Emily also suggests, whip out that green thumb and put a little plant in it. Or, simply use it for a small centerpiece container full of flowers and/or greenery.

And if you’re really adventurous, perhaps during a post-wedding craft session you could attempt a teacup chandelier! The image below is in fact a teacup chandelier that hangs in Petit Four Cakes in Dallas.

Blogs We Love : Junebug Weddings

Ms Christy over at Junebug Weddings is the, how do the kids say it, bomb-diggity? Even though she is based out of Seattle (and not to mention a crazy-awesome photographer and part of the exclusive wedding planning resource for Seattle that is Junebug Weddings), she has tons of posts that definitely need to be shared. Below I selected a few of my favorites.
But before I get to that, the blog is just all-around fabulous. It’s nicely organized into pages that are dedicated to Inspiration, Honeymoons, Fashion, Fun Ideas, Beauty Treats, Hot Dates, Real Weddings, and Great Reads. And there is no need to stop at those fabulous pages…check out groombug, just for grooms!
On to a few of the faves:
I’m a HUGE fan of the “little black dress”. They are classic and ooooh-so-fabulous. You just can’t have too many of them! Wear them for the rehearsal, a night out with the ladies, or for a hot date (with your soon-to-be husband, of course). In addition, a lot of brides are taking a laid-back approach when choosing their ‘maids dresses, asking them to purchase inexpensive black dresses or wear ones they already have! And these, in most cases, can definitely be worn again. Like Christy says, “you just can’t go wrong with a LBD!”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see enough posts for the fellows of the wedding world! A simple article with some fabulous visuals.
With so much emphasis put on planning the wedding itself, sometimes other things are pushed aside! But there is no way you could forget about planning that honeymoon if you get to use these creative and trendy travel bags and accessories from Orla Kiely. Too cute!
Fab Find: Botanical Paper Works

Two things I really like: paper and flowers. So guess why I love Botanical Paper Works? They have cleverly combined the two in their fabulous Seed Paper! Like the site says, they are beautiful, handmade, plantable, and eco-friendly. These little pieces of fun consist of paper with seeds “baked” right in - they can go from part of the paper ensemble to a plant in the ground for the receiver to enjoy year round.
Botanical Paper Works offers everything from every-day stationary to birth announcements to wedding invitations. And the best part of all of them? They can be planted to sprout some beautiful flowers. Check out these examples!
